Even royals love a good weekend soccer match

If you’ve been wondering what royals do with their weekend days, you’re in luck. Kensington Palace just shared a photo of Prince William and Prince Charlotte after they made a surprise appearance to support the Lionesses (England’s women’s soccer team) in their match against Spain for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 Final this Sunday, July 27. So it looks like even princes and princesses enjoy catching a good game every now and again.
The image, posted on the official Instagram account @princeandprincessofwales, featured a spirited caption: “Let’s go, @lionesses!”—highlighting the royal duo’s passionate support for England’s national team. Football runs in the family: Prince William, a longtime patron of The Football Association, naturally couldn’t miss this pivotal game. Alongside Princess Charlotte, he traveled to Basel, Switzerland, to witness the high-stakes match firsthand.

In the photo above, the father-daughter duo watches from their seats, visibly disappointed as Spain secures an early 1-0 lead. If you’re following along, live updates are everywhere (and just as I’m writing this, England has equalized!). But no matter the final result, something tells me Prince William and Princess Charlotte will still be proud of the Lionesses for reaching the championship—and who knows? We might even get a few more candid shots before the night’s over.
